Rep. Bill Hager ,R. Boca Raton Asks Florida Governor To Fire Broward Sheriff

Broward County Sheriff’s Office is reviewing its handling of the school shooting in Parkland, and that in itself is a problem.

The investigation should be handled by an outside source, the Sheriff's Office investigating itself will never be impartial or unbiased and perhaps that is why a South Florida lawmaker called on Florida Gov. Rick Scott to fire the sheriff from office for "neglect of duty and incompetence."

Rep. Bill Hager, R-Boca Raton, wrote a letter to the governor pointing out the "unfathomable inaction" of Sheriff Scott Israel's department in not acting on reports of gunman Nikolas Cruz's erratic, dangerous and even violent behavior - which included threats to shoot up a school.

Cruz would go on to kill 17 students and faculty at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Valentine's Day.

"An investigation by Sheriff Israel into the unfathomable inaction of those deputies will do nothing to bring back the 17 victims. The sheriff was fully aware of the threat this individual presented to his community and chose to ignore it," the letter said.

Before committing the worst high school shooting in U.S. history, Cruz's behavior raised many red flags which were reported to local and federal law enforcement as well as state social services.

Hager's letter goes on to call out more than the Broward County Sheriff's Office. "Sadly, he was not the only one that ignored it," Hager said talking about Sheriff Israel.

"The Department of Children and Families, Broward County Schools, the FBI and the BSO all had pivotal information but failed to act appropriately and failed to communicate appropriately."
