The Secret Service also reports that the vehicle didn't breach the security barriers of the White House complex itself, but that traffic within the nearby vicinity would be affected as a result of a security shutdown.

According to tweets from the Secret Service, no shots were fired in the apprehension of the female driver.

At this time it remains unknown as to who the suspect may be but the Secret Service has stated that no law enforcement or security personnel were injured as a result of the crash.

Fox News has also reported that the female driver was taken into custody, and shown images that appear to depict a white SUV as being responsible for the damages sustained to the security barrier.

One White House correspondent for CNBC tweeted that the White House is on lockdown as a result of the incident, and that the press doors are being blocked off by uniformed officers.

Secret Service tells me the security situation is elevated here at the White House. Eamon Javers of CNBC also reported seeing three uniformed Secret Service officers running towards the vehicle after the crash.
