Police officers in the Bronx recovered a modified high-powered handgun with a scope and a second firearm as a result of traffic enforcement on Thursday.
Members of the 43rd Precinct Anti-Crime Team stopped a vehicle at the intersection of Bruckner Boulevard and Close Avenue for running a red light. The officers also smelled marijuana emanating from the vehicle. They checked the vehicle and recovered two loaded handguns and a quantity of the marijuana as the result of the subsequent investigation.
One of the two firearms was a modified with a scope, a fore grip, a rear stock, and an extended 30-round magazine.
Police officer Bory Echanique of the 43rd Precinct Anti-crime Team said: “Getting illegal guns off the street is always the goal. But doing so on this occasion without getting anyone hurt is a win for everyone.”
The three occupants of the said vehicle were placed under arrest. The authorities did not yet reveal their identities but said the three are all male aged 31, 28, and 26.
They were charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of marijuana.
