Islamic State claim one of their followers was responsible for killing five women exiting a church in Dagestan, southern Russia yesterday. The ‘soldier of the caliphate’ opened fire on a group of churchgoers as they were exiting mass for a ‘lent’ festival.

The church priest, who was responsible for saving many as he closed the church doors soon after the attacker started shooting, explains what happened: "We had finished the mass and were beginning to leave the church. A bearded man ran towards the church shouting 'Allahu Akbar' (God is greatest) and killed four people."

"He was carrying a rifle and a knife."
