Belgian police raided an Antwerp mosque this weekend after child abuse videos had surfaced on the internet of one of the board members of the Islamic prayer house sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in the building.
The man has since left the country and gone to Morocco, which his family claims is ‘coincidental.’
According to the latest police update, the facts date back to a few weeks ago. The El Fath mosque in the Antwerp suburb of Borgerhout would be the place of a rivalry between the local Imam and one of the board members of the mosque who taught children about the wisdom of the ‘Quran’ during weekends. The Imam apparently had filmed the man fondling and sexually assaulting children and tried to blackmail him with the video.
As another member of the mosque had put the video on social media to decry what was happening at which point police was informed. They raided the mosque over the weekend and took a laptop and a computer.

According to police sources, there is by now at least one complaint from a local minor victim and a second one is forthcoming.
The members of the local mosque reacted surprised to the news of the police raid: “We are also just hearing what is being said in the street,” they claimed. “It is difficult to just believe all this, which is why it is good that the police is investigating. Then at least there will be clarity. If it is correct, then he must be punished.”
