Though some allegations of sexual exploitation and child abuse are more than 40 years old, retired Boise priest W. Thomas Faucher has several fresh crimes he will be facing since his recent arrest. Faucher, formerly of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Boise was alleged to be involved in 10 counts of sexual exploitation of children, two counts of distributing sexually exploitative material involving children and two charges of possessing a controlled substance. On February 2 he was arrested at his Boise residence which he had rented from the church the past 15 years. The allegations from Tuesday are new and unrelated to his initial arrest. The person who brought forward the allegations wished to remain anonymous according to a press release.

Gene Fadness of the Boise Diocese notified the Attorney General's Office on Wednesday to move forward with charges. The Attorney General's Office spokesman deferred questions to the Ada County Prosecutor's Office who have not been available for comment. As he was arrested, Faucher was found with a cache of child pornography, marijuana, LSD and ecstasy. The investigation was prompted by a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. At the arraignment, Mark Manweiler, defense attorney, told the court that Faucher had never had a complaint against him despite being around hundreds of children in his career of over 40 years. He also noted that Faucher has fully cooperated thus far with law enforcement. At the time of his arrest, he spent five hours being interviewed by law enforcement.

Faucher was out on a bond of $250,000 according to Patrick Orr, the Ada County Sheriff's Office spokesman. Since the arraignment, Judge Michael Lojek has issued a no-contact order forbidding Faucher from being near any children under the age of 18. Lojek has also restricted the fallen priest from leaving the county without permission and forbid any use of drugs. On account of his Catholic faith, Lojek will not ban the use of alcohol. Faucher's next court appearance will be February 15.
