A gas station clerk’s quick thinking and action helped save a woman after he saw her mouth the word “help.”
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said that the woman was sitting in a car in the parking lot of the Kangaroo Express at 13697 Beach Boulevard past 1 AM on Sunday. The clerk saw the woman mouth “help” and he then quickly called 911 and gave police an accurate description of the vehicle. The vehicle description was then broadcast to all officers in the area.
An officer saw the car on Atlantic Boulevard and tried to stop it. The driver then fled from the police leaving the woman inside the car. Police pursued the suspect and later caught up with him and arrested him at Leon Road and Byrnes Road.

The victim told the police that she was just walking from one beach bar to another when the suspect identified later as Jose Ramos Sandoval pulled up to her and asked her if she needed a drive.
The woman said she mistook Sandoval as a friend of a friend of hers so she accepted the ride. During the ride, it dawned on her that she does not really know him.
Sandoval also started driving away from her destination. They left the beaches area and headed into the Kangaroo on Hodges Boulevard and Beach Boulevard.
The woman said she struggled to leave the car, but Sandoval reached over, grabbed her hair and stopped her from getting out.
The victim said she thought that mouthing “help” to the clerk at the Kangaroo Express was her only chance of escape.
Sandoval was arrested on accusations of false imprisonment, fleeing police and violation of probation. He later admitted to the incident.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office profusely thanked the quick-thinking gas station clerk for playing a crucial role in saving the woman from danger.
The police, however, did not release the clerk’s name.
