If Americans want peace with Russia, they should vote for Donald Trump. If they want to go to war with Putin's country, then they are free to vote for Hillary Clinton.
Such is the piece of unsolicited advice of Russian veteran Vladimir Zhironovsky to Americans as he believes only Trump has the ability to de-escalate tensions between Moscow and Washington.
Zhironovsky, an ultra-nationalist ally of President Vladmir Putin, thinks that relations between Russia and the U.S. can not get any worse than how things stand now- except if and when a war erupts between the two powerful countries.
But for the famously flamboyant lawmaker, the specter of war can be avoided if Americans will make the right decision on election day. He re-emphasizes that Americans are voting for peace on Planet Earth if they vote for Trump. And if they choose Hillary Clinton, it's gonna be a war.
" It will be a short movie. There will be Hiroshimas and Nagasakis everywhere.", said Zhironovsky who is regarded back home by many Russians as a comic figure who have a propensity for issuing attention-grabbing and headline-making statements. Still, some think he is just being used by Putin's government to float radical opinions and to test such against public opinion.
Zhironovsky, a vocal admirer of Trump who bears many similarities with the Republican presidential aspirant, is confident that Trump- should he become the next U.S. president- will have a brilliant chance to make relations between Moscow and Washington more peaceful. So much so that he says Trump can even win a Nobel Peace Prize if he can forge peace between these powerhouse nations who have not been seeing eye to eye on a number of issues lately.
There's deep disagreement between the two countries' views and stand over Syria and Ukraine. Then there's the White House accusation last week, echoed strongly by Hillary Clinton, that says Russia was behind cyber attacks against the Democratic Party organizations. Hillary even alleged that Russia is trying to intervene with the elections by pushing for Trump's candidacy.
The feeling is mutual, it seems for Zhironovsky as he calls Hillary " an evil mother-in-law" whose record as Obama's Secretary of State from 2009-2013 reveals she was unfit to lead the country.
" She craves power. Her view is that Hillary is the most important person on the planet, that America is an exceptional country as Barack Obama said. That's dangerous. She could start a nuclear war.", said Zhironovsky in an interview with Reuters.
Zhironovsky who jokes he could be related to Trump because of their many similarities in beliefs and behavior turns serious when he concludes that Trump's victory would be a gift to humanity. In contrast, he thinks that if Hillary wins, "it will be the last U.S. President ever. "
