There's astounding breaking news coming out of the Korean Peninsula which states that Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un of North Korea has formally invited South Korean President Moon Jae-in into Pyongyang, and the invitation has been accepted.

The two rivals have been at war for the better part of a half-century, with only a cease-fire halting an outright war.

Kim Yo Jong, the sister of Kim Jong Un delivered the historic invitation during a meeting between North and South Korean officials at Seoul's Presidential Palace Saturday, according to Presidential spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom.

The two nations have been engaged in what appears to be diplomacy ever since prior to the beginning of this year's Olympics.

There is some hope that a peaceful solution can be achieved and free the North Korean people of their endless suffering while uniting the two nations.

This is literal history in the making between the pair of leaders, with the visit from Kim Yo Jong the first time that a member of the North's ruling dynasty has visited since the Korean War, which concluded in an armistice in 1953.

The official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said in a report that Kim Yo Jong "took the platform of the opening ceremony" along with South Korean President Moon Jae-in bringing a hope for peace and prosperity between the two nations unlike ever before.

Kim Yong Nam, President of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, and his delegation held a brief meeting with Moon when attending the ceremony together.

The report also highlighted the joint entry by the two teams of the DPRK and South Korea into the stadium.

"Spectators broke into cheers and applause as players of the North and the South of Korea entered the stadium, led by the flag of the Korean Peninsula amid the playing of the song 'Arirang,'" said the KCNA.

"Kim Yong Nam, Kim Yo Jong and President Moon Jae In and his wife all stood up to wave to the players of the north and the south," according to the KCNA.

What will happen next is anyone's guess, but there is hope amongst the world that this is the beginning of the end of a long war between the two nations.

This comes after Vice President of the United States of America Mike Pence offered to assist the North Korean people in exchange for the complete dismantling of North Korea's nuclear capabilities and ambitions.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">We are determined to make sure that even in the midst of the powerful background &amp; idealism of the Olympics, the World is reminded of the truth about North Korea. <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/VPinASIA?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#VPinASIA</a> <a href="https://t.co/ZKmbxhlzMz">pic.twitter.com/ZKmbxhlzMz</a></p>&mdash; Vice President Mike Pence (@VP) <a href="https://twitter.com/VP/status/962120567758508033?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 10, 2018</a></blockquote>

Time will tell if this solution holds merit as a baseline for an eventual dismantling of North Korea's arsenal and a peaceful negotiation between two long departed relatives of North and South Korea.
