A 35-year-old Washington woman died early Wednesday morning in Olympia Police custody after she was placed in restraints and paramedics administered medication.
Police say they were called to assist the Olympia Fire Department after a fire alarm was activated around 1:05 a.m. Wednesday in an apartment complex located in the 1200 Block of Fern Street Southwest.
A release states the firefighters found the woman had pulled the fire alarm while in a "crisis" but did not elaborate on what type of crisis the woman was having.
She was also reportedly suffering from mental health issues as well as the possible side effects of substance use. Officers determined the woman was a danger to herself and others and put her into restraints.
She was to be taken for a mental health evaluation but began physically fighting with officers. The report says paramedics then administered a medication but did not specify which medication.
The release goes on to state shortly after the woman was administered medication by paramedics she stopped breathing. She was provided CPR and taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital. The woman did not survive her encounter with authorities.
The woman's death is being investigated by the Thurston County Coroner's Office and police are asking anyone with any information regarding the event to call the Thurston County Sheriff's Office at 360-786-5500.

The problem is finding "sound-minded logical professionals" in health care these days. The majority of doctors in my area are farmed out of India or South America. The few mental health eggspurts around me are either screaming liberals or the bottom of the barrel skill wise. We still have great registered nurses, pac's and nurse practitioners but they are mostly controlled via one of the above green card docs. Except the NP's but they are not allowed to do everything. A very sad state of affairs I'm afraid.
1984 is here. The services we have available to us today are few and far between with regard to psychological programs, life coaches is what I call them. Self analysis is taught in this crazy world and unlike anytime before in the history of man, our fragments families have left missed milestones and our population searching for something to give them a sense of calm, confidence, validation, if not the family, the state. In no other time in history has it been more urgent than now to provide psychological services manned with sound-minded logical professionals who realize we have to be taught how to live, and when we fail to find out who we are, we have no choice but to kill the pain of failure.
