A man was attacked by a drunk illegal immigrant because he stopped him from urinating in public. When the police arrived, the victim was covered in blood and had to be rushed to the hospital where he is currently recovering from the attack. The victim received severe lacerations in the neck, face, and stomach dealt with him with a box-cutter. The victim of the attack managed to wrest the box cutter from the attacker, but not before being seriously injured himself. All this occurred in plain sight of several bus passengers at a Maryland bus stop in Montgomery County outside Washington. The victim and an uninjured eyewitness who was at the scene pointed out the miscreant when officers arrived.
The attacker was 46-year-old Salvador Gomez-Lopez 46. He has been arrested now on two counts of assault, possession of a dangerous weapon with intent to injure and public intoxication. No word yet on whether he will be charged with public indecency or indecent exposure. Indecent exposure often is charged with a sex crime and would land Gomez-Lopez on a sex offender registry.
When the victim of the attack suggested to Gomez-Lopez that he use a proper restroom and pull up his pants, his attacker allegedly pulled out a box of cutter knife out of his backpack and attacked him. Luckily, the victim is expected to survive. He was arrested and Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has since "lodged a detainer" after revealing that the suspect is a wanted fugitive, in the country illegally from El Salvador a spokeswoman for ICE has said.
Gomez-Lopez is currently scheduled for a three-day trial in Montgomery County Circuit Court dated on early April and bond is being held on $5,000. If convicted, he will face up to 38 years in jail. The defendant who is the father of two that worked for relative part-time is expected in court.
The officer described the attacker as "drunk and belligerent" and "uncooperative." Gomez-Lopez was arrested at the scene of the incident. While he was being questioned, the police say that he also attempted to give them a fake name.
