Police officers fatally shot and killed a man following a high-speed chase in northeast Georgia last week.
Reports from the incident indicate that the crash happened around 3 a.m. on Thursday morning along Warwoman Road in the Rabun County community of Clayton.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation revealed that the driver was cruising nearly 70 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone when a chase between the driver and officer started.
The incident took a different turn after the driver turned down a smaller secondary road and eventually crashed the vehicle. The police officer issued repeated commands to the driver for him to stay in the vehicle. However, the daring driver was not going to follow commands he jumped out a rear window and then onto the top of the car.
The man was armed with a knife when he tried jumping onto the officer. In response, the officer shot at the driver several times. He died instantly and was pronounced so at the scene by medical examiners.
No identities have been released. The police officer has been placed on administrative leave while the incident is investigated.
