Silvio Berlusconi never left politics. Though the three time former Prime Minister is barred from ever holding political office again as he was convicted for tax fraud, all Italians know that he still pulls the strings within his Forza Italia party, which represents the conservative centre-right of the country.

After the events of this weekend, where a man with extreme-right tendencies shot six African immigrants out of revenge for an Italian girl being murdered by a Nigerian drug gang, Berlusconi linked the arrival of the great number of immigrants with the rising violence in his country.

More details here:

In doing so, he immediately took a swipe at the EU for failing to share the burden of Italy’s migrant arrivals, saying: “Today, Italy counts for nothing in Brussels and the world. We will make it count again.”

Berlusconi promises to deport from Italy 95% of immigrants, 600,000 out of 630,000 people, accusing all of them of being “ready to commit crimes”
Berlusconi is not only ready to commit crimes, he has been often condemned for commiting actual crimes
— Alfons López Tena (@alfonslopeztena) February 4, 2018

Should his has centre-right coalition enter government after elections on 4 March (his ‘Forza Italia’ has formed an alliance with two far-right parties, the Northern League and the smaller Brothers of Italy, linking the three parties together no matter what the result), Mr Berlusconi has now pledged to deport 600,000 illegal immigrants.

The 81-year-old rightwing former prime minister claimed that the immigration issue was a “social bomb ready to explode in Italy.”

“Immigration has become an urgent question, because after years with a leftwing government, there are 600,000 migrants who don’t have the right to stay.

“We consider it to be an absolute priority to regain control over the situation.”

Berlusconi is a little bit of a Reagan-ish cuckservative though

I'd hope Salvini gets more vote than him to lead the right wing in Italy
