Video - Moscow Covered Under Record Snow

The Moscow mayor, Mr. Sergei Sobyanin, sent out a stark warning to his citizens today after one person died and several were injured as the Russian capital experienced its heaviest day of snowfall since records began. He claimed: "Be careful. The forecast says the weather will get worse."

The Kremlin and the Orthodox cathedral could be seen covered under a thick white blanket whilst trucks tried to get the heavy snowpack out of the Red Square so the tourists could enjoy it.

Some 150 flights were canceled at Moscow's multiple airports, and various power failures were reported in towns and villages around the city.

To the joy of many children, Mayor Sobyanin allowed them to skip classes today.

"Heavy snowfalls will continue through the night into tomorrow," he commented.

"The traffic situation promises to be complicated. It's better to refrain from using personal cars."
