There are some heartless souls out here that will go to the very extreme and do things that leave the world in awe. Such was the case in Honolulu where police officers are accused of making a man put his mouth in a urinal.

The four Honolulu police officers are being investigated by the FBI after they were accused of forcing a man to place his mouth on a urinal inside a public restroom.

The suspected misconduct was also reported by another officer after the officers had responded to a complaint on Sunday afternoon involving a person trespassing in the restroom, according to Honolulu Police Chief Susan Ballard.

“If true, these allegations violate the core values the HPD stands for,” Ballard said. “Our officers are sworn to uphold the right of all persons, and I expect every officer to treat every member of the public fairly and with respect. Personally, I am appalled at the behavior, if it is true, and appropriate action will be taken.”

An initial internal investigation was conducted by the department and then it contacted the FBI on Wednesday. Ballard revealed that the case was referred to the FBI since it involves the abuse of power.

As a result, the four police officers have been placed on restricted duty. They are reported to have between three and 16 years of law enforcement experience, according to the department. At the time of the incident, the officers were on patrol in a district that covers downtown Honolulu.

The incident caught the attention of Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell who commended on Ballard’s decision to hand the case to the FBI for review.

“Although these officers are presumed innocent, we need an independent agency to investigate exactly what occurred and whether these officers engaged in civil rights abuses,” Caldwell said in a statement.

“Chief Ballard has promised to transform the Honolulu Police Department from a warrior mentality to a guardian mentality, and this is an approach to community policing that I wholeheartedly support.”
