3 Victims involved in Helicopter Crash into Newport Beach Home Identified

The names of the three victims who died after a helicopter crashed into a Newport Beach Home have been released by Authorities.

The crash, which took place on Tuesday afternoon, killed Joseph Anthony Tena, 60, of Newport Beach and Kimberly Lynne Watzman, 45, of Santa Monica. The names were unveiled by the Orange County Sheriff's Department on Twitter Wednesday. The third victim was identified later on in a second tweet.

Reports indicate that the Robinson 44 helicopter that they were aboard crashed under unknown circumstances into a home at the corner of Shearwater Place and Egret Court about 1:45 p.m. The plane had departed from John Wayne Airport on its way to Catalina when it crashed shortly after take-off, said National Transportation Safety Board Senior Investigator Joshua Cawthra.

The crash involved a total of five people that included four aboard the helicopter and one bystander on the ground. Cawthra revealed that the pilot and two passengers were killed in the crash. The third passenger who was aboard the helicopter was also injured. Spokesman Jeff Corless confirmed that Orange County Global Medical Center received a patient from the crash scene.

The patient is receiving medical attention although they are in critical condition. The victim who was on the ground had minor injuries and was treated and released from a local hospital. The case is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and NTSB officials as they try to investigate the cause of the crash.

The helicopter, which is owned by Spitzer Helicopter, and was under lease to Revolution Aviation did not make a distress call prior to it going down.
