A Florida man punched his helpless girlfriend who is without arms and legs when he flared up because he was “tired of taking care of her.” He now faces battery charges.
Patrick Moan, 37, of Vero Beach was arrested Sunday after his abuses against his live-in girlfriend of two years were reported to the authorities. The arrest report of the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office says the girlfriend accused Moan of punching her in the ear after an argument.
The report also states that Moan hit her disabled girlfriend “because he was tired of taking care of her and her yelling at him.”
Moan then took his girlfriend to Walmart where he instructed a patron to call the police. The girlfriend could not make the call herself as she has no arms and legs.
The report further asserts it was not the first time Moan subjected his girlfriend to abuse. The victim said Moan beats her up about two times a month whenever he drinks.
The woman’s face was red when authorities saw her following Moan’s attack and him abandoning her at Walmart.
The report quoted Moan as saying he is “tired of taking care of her and pushing her in her wheelchair everywhere.” Moan added that he is tired of “being her primary caregiver.” In his confession, it appears that Moan also intentionally tried to hurt her and have his abuse reported to the authorities. He said he “felt if he punched her then confessed to it he would no longer have to take care of her, and she would become the state’s problem.”
The unnamed victim had to be hospitalized to have her ear checked out because it was ringing as a result of the attack.
Moan was booked into jail. He’s held on $1,000 bond.
