Kamprad died on January 27 after a short-term illness and was 91-years-old. The company said on Twitter, "Ingvar Kamprad has quietly passed away in his home in Smaland. He was born in Smaland in 1926, and at the age of 17 he had already founded IKEA. Ingvar will be sorely missed and remembered fondly by his family and by IKEA employees all over the world."

President and Chairman of the Ikea Group, Torbjorn Loof, said, "We are very sorry that Ingvar has gone away. We will remember his devotion and dedication to being on the common people's side. Never give up, always try to get better and lead by being an example."

The chairman of Ikea's parent company, Lars-Johan Jarnheimer, said Kamprad's sons called him this morning to say that Ingvar has died and to be glad that Ingvar had a long and contentious life.

Center Party's leader Annie Loof said, "A pioneer that changed people's everyday lives; an industrious, economical Smålander that went from a pencil-store to a company with department stores all over the world." The Liberal Party leader Jan Bjorklund also commented on his passing saying, "He was the biggest Swedish entrepreneur in the post-war era."

Prime Minister Stefan Lofven also mourned Kamprad's passing, "I have been met by the sad message about Ingvar Kamprad's passing away. I mainly think of his family and all friends today. Ingvar Kamprad was a unique entrepreneur who meant a lot for Swedish business and made home furnishing available to the many people, not just a few."

The Minister of Industry, Mikael Damberg, also said, "It was a nice man, who thought a lot about himself and had firm views of how the company should develop. I think that many of these family-owned companies are characterized by the fact that the culture characterized by the founder also plays a part in the company's development in the future, and this has been the case for Ikea."

Ikea is a Swedish-founded multinational company headquartered in the Netherlands. It was founded by a 17-year-old Ingvar Kamprad who went on to make Forbes list of top ten richest people in the world. Kamprad is estimated to have been worth more than 40 billion dollars.
