Christi Hospital officials say a mother who lost four children in a house fire has passed away early Saturday. Authorities later clarified that Charee Eggleston is being kept alive on life support in order to donate her organs.
Eggleston was being treated at Christi Hospital St. Francis in Wichita after a house fire took the lives of her four children Thursday. Fire crews arrived at a home on Austin and 2nd around 9 a.m. Thursday to find the home engulfed in flames.
Crews were able to rescue five people from the home, Eggleston and her four children who were in the basement. All four children died from their injuries.
Detective Jeff Ward of the Pratt Police Department said, "The total of five persons were recovered from the structure and transported to area hospitals. Four of those recovered, who happen to be children, have all since succumb to their injuries."
The Kansas State Fire Marshal is leading an investigation into the cause of the fire which is currently unknown. Eggleston's sister, Kristina Morris, was in the house when the fire started.

Morris says she awoke to smoke and someone pounding on the door. She scrambled to get to her sister and her children but the fire was too great.
"Those babies didn’t deserve any of that. We were trying so hard to get down there (basement)," Morris said. Eggleston’s four children, Reece, Timmy, River and Harley died from their injuries Thursday.
