After the downfall of prominent Michigan State University Gymnastics doctor, Larry Nassar, the entire board of USA Gymnastics will resign in compliance with an order from the U.S. Olympic Committee.
USA Gymnastics is still reeling after the trial of Nassar who sexually molested over 150 young girls over the course of his career as a doctor at Michigan State University. Nassar was sentenced earlier this week to 175 years in prison molesting the young gymnast girls plus 60 years from federal charges stemming from child porn possession.
Nassar would perform painful 'exams' where he would violate girls private areas with his fingers, often with parents in the same room but without their knowledge. Nassar also filmed himself molesting girls with a GoPro camera. Over 150 of his victims addressed him at his sentencing which lasted several days.
Even after hearing the tearful testimony of his victims and the damage he had done, he still showed a lack of responsibility and remorse. Nassar even wrote a six-page letter to the judge about how he wasn't getting a fair trial and he wasn't medically fit to sit through all of the victim's testimonies.
The judge later mocked his letter citing how any discomfort he faced at his hearing paled in comparison to the thousands of hours of pleasure he derived from raping young girls. The U.S. Olympic Committee CEO Scott Blackmun released an open letter to Team USA Wednesday saying, "all current USAG directors must resign."
USA Gymnastics responded to the letter saying, "We agree with the USOC's statement that the interests of our athletes and clubs, and their sport, may be better served by moving forward with meaningful change within our organization, rather than decertification."
Recently, the President of Michigan State University also resigned the same day Nassar was sentenced.
