A tragic report from Italy reveals a deadly accident occurred Thursday after a train derailed killing at least five people. The state train firm Ferrovie Dello Stato said in a statement that a regional train, operated by Trenord, derailed at the Pioltello Limito station.

The accident took place around 25 miles from Milan but the train firm did not comment on the number of fatalities. A fire official told Reuters, "There are between three and five dead in the accident from what we know at the moment."
Local TV channels RaiNews24 and SkyTG24 also reported at least two people had been killed and 10 have been seriously injured, according to emergency services. News footage showed emergency responders trying to free people from the mangled wreckage of the trains which bent on impact.
After the train derailed, all trains traveling on the route between Milan and the nearby city of Brescia were halted, according to Ferrovie Dello Stato.

Trenord is a joint venture between railway companies FNM and Gruppo Ferrovie Dello Stato, one unit of state railway operators.
FNM confirmed the accident had happened at Pioltello and said its Chairman Andrea Gibelli was on his way to the scene of the crash.
