Trump Blames Dems for Shutdown; Says They Favor Illegals Over the Military

President Donald Trump has squarely put the blame on Democrats for the impending government shutdown. The President stressed in a series of tweets that the Democratic lawmakers “played politics” instead of prioritizing the military and border safety.

Trump tweeted on Saturday morning: “Democrats are far more concerned with Illegal Immigrants than they are with our great Military or Safety at our dangerous Southern Border. They could have easily made a deal but decided to play Shutdown politics instead.”

The President stressed in his ending statement in the said tweet the need for Americans to elect more Republicans in the coming elections. Using a hashtag, Trump affirmed: “#WeNeedMoreRepublicansIn18 in order to power through mess!”

The bill to pass the federal budget failed at midnight last night after Democrats attempted to attach protections for undocumented immigrants brought to the country as children, the so-called “dreamers.”

All Democrats with the exemption of five voted against the budget measure. There are also five Republicans who opposed the budget proposal.

The two parties traded accusations that each was the cause of the shutdown. Both the Republicans and Democrats are struggling to avoid voters’ anger ahead of mid-term elections in November.

Trump also posted a follow-up tweet on the matter and said: “This is the One Year Anniversary of my Presidency and the Democrats wanted to give me a nice present. #DemocratShutDown.”

Trump also stressed the need to have more Republicans in the Senate as he added: “For those asking, the Republicans only have 51 votes in the Senate, and they need 60. That is why we need to win more Republicans in 2018 Election! We can then be even tougher on Crime (and Border), and even better to our Military & Veterans!"

He also tweeted: #AmericaFirst!”

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/AMERICA?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#AMERICA</a> FIRST!</p>&mdash; Donald J. The President also said the Democrats are holding the military hostage and giving more importance to their desire for unchecked illegal immigration, something not acceptable to him. He tweeted:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Democrats are holding our Military hostage over their desire to have unchecked illegal immigration. Can’t let that happen!</p>&mdash; Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) <a href="https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/954722155463430145?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 20, 2018</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

The negotiations will resume today. Technically-speaking with the failure to pass the federal budget, the government is out of money, and many federal agencies all over the U.S. will be unable to continue operating.

Law enforcement, the military, air traffic control as essential services will continue to run normally, however.

The White House issued a tough statement saying it would not negotiate with the Democrats on immigration until the end of the shutdown. Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders also blamed the Democrats for holding “lawful citizens hostage over their reckless demands.

Republican majority leader Mitch McConnell echoed Trump and Sanders as he also pointed to the Democrats as the culprits for the shutdown. He said: “What we’ve just witnessed on the floor was a cynical decision by Senate Democrats to shove aside millions of Americans for the sake of irresponsible political games.”

Democrats led by Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer facing criticisms for being “obstructionists”, on the other hand, blamed Trump for the shutdown.
