Breaking News: Active Shooter In Colorado Springs, Avoid The Area

||| KKTV 11 News | |||

Police have closed off at Union and Vickers in Colorado Springs Friday evening as officials ask the public to look out for an armed man. Around 4:15 p.m. Friday, the shooting started and The Colorado Springs Police Department went on "priority dispatch" which means you should call 911 only in the event of an emergency.

A reverse 911 call went out from CSPD that said:

<i>"This is an important message from the Colorado Springs police department. CSPD is working a critical incident in the area of Union/Vickers. CSPD is asking that you lock your doors, stay inside and shelter in place until further notice. If you see anything suspicious please contact 911 immediately. CSPD is looking for a Caucasian male in his 30’s who is six foot wearing a gray hoodie and light blue jeans. Do not approach the suspect if you see him. CSPD will send out another ENS message when the situation has been handled."</i>

A large blockade of police and emergency vehicles were seen responding to the scene but were holding back. First Responders, firetrucks, and ambulances all have to wait for the scene to be secure before they can proceed and render aid if it is needed and this situation is not yet under control. That means any victims who were hit by the shooter who hasn't got out on their own are stuck there until the threat is neutralized.
