Canada – Conviction As Murder Weapon Shows In Facebook Selfie

The mysterious killing of a young Canadian girl was solved after police noticed the murder weapon in a Facebook selfie with her best friend. Back in March 2015, young Miss Brittney Gargol, 18-years-old, was found dead near a landfill in March 2015 and an autopsy would reveal that she died of strangulation.

This week, Gargol's friend Cheyenne Rose Antoine, 21-years-old, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in Saskatoon Provincial Court in connection with the death. Investigators arrested Miss Antoine after they found a Facebook selfie that showed her wearing the belt used which was used to strangle her friend Brittney.

The wide blue woven belt with a large buckle was found on a roadside next to Gargol’s body, and Antoine was seen wearing the same belt in a photo posted to her Facebook account just hours before the killing.

In order to provide herself with an alibi, Miss Antoine had posted on the victim’s Facebook wall: “Where are you? Haven’t heard from you. Hope you made it home safe,” immediately after she had killed her friend.

Investigators became suspicious of her as she initially had said she was spending time with Brittney the night she died, but then left her friend to visit her uncle. Upon checking those details, it was revealed that her statement was false. Miss Antoine then changed her story, telling investigators that she and Miss Gargol partied with two men, who allegedly strangled the victim and put a gun to her head to help them.

For a year, Miss Antoine was left alone, but when investigators in a last-ditch effort went through all social media posts, she was arrested after they found the selfie showing her wearing the same belt used to kill her friend.

The victim's aunt Jennifer said to the court: "Most days we can't stop thinking about Brittney, what happened that night, what she must have felt fighting for her life."

"You feel darkened in your own dark world … You robbed this world of someone who had a special gift."
