Police in San Jose said Tuesday that they have arrested twelve felons in a sweeping raid that targeted violent gang members who had committed a series of robberies, carjackings, burglaries, and a shooting.
The operation was of immense scope requiring 50 officers conducting the "large-scale" operation last week targeting a violent criminal gang. Officers targeted the gang members responsible for the crimes and also seized stolen property and weapons from the criminals.
Police say the gang was behind more than 30 robberies and carjackings in the city in the summer of 2017 alone. One of the robberies left a victim assaulted and they suffered a major head injury, according to police.
Authorities say the gang used stolen cars and guns to operate and fund their crime spree. When Wednesday came, police served eight search and arrest warrants in San Jose as well as another one in Morgan Hill. The sweep netted seven adults and five minors who were booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on a multitude of charges.
The charges the gang members face include robbery, carjacking, burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, child endangerment, possession of a loaded firearm, possession of stolen property, possession of drugs, and gang enhancement. The minors were jailed at the juvenile hall on the same charges.
The search warrants seized 7 firearms, a carjacked vehicle, $2,000 in US currency, ammunition, replica firearms, stun gun, pepper spray and knives, stolen property including laptops, tablets, keys and key fobs. The seven adult gang members arrested are as follows.
