A 39-year-old Texas Public school teacher faces criminal charges after it became known she had a long and improper sexual relationship with one of her 16-year-old students.
The student, assigned in the police file as ‘Fernando’ had opened up to his mother about the relationship he had in school. When his parents asked about the details though, he was a bit slower in forthcoming with the truth but in the end did admit it concerned one of the teachers.
Ms Marisela Mendoza Winn of McAllen, an English teacher at the IDEA McAllen Public School, was charged with improper relationship between educator and student. The criminal complaint against her as well as the Hidalgo County jail records show that ‘Fernando’ admitted to having a sexual relationship with his former English teacher.
The mother stated that Fernando "also confessed to going to Maricela Mendoza Winn's apartment multiple times to perform sexual acts".
In all, investigators claim they found some 5,000 pages of texts between the two, including several vulgar texts sent from Ms Winn to Fernando.
As police continue to investigate the allegations, Ms Winn has since been released from IDEA Public Schools.
The school released the following statement: “IDEA Public Schools is committed to ensuring the safety of our students on the road to and through college. The employee in question has been on administrative leave as authorities conducted an investigation, and has since been released from IDEA Public Schools.”
“We are cooperating fully with the investigation, and we have taken all appropriate actions in accordance with the law and network policy. As this is an ongoing investigation, we cannot comment any further. All questions should be directed to Hidalgo County.”
