A 21-year-old woman’s body was found in her car and police declared that her former boyfriend is the primary suspect in her killing.
The woman was identified as Karen Garcia from Colusa and her ex-boyfriend is Salvador Garcia, Jr. Authorities found evidence of possible homicide when they raided the Williams apartment the former lovers used to take care of their 2-year-old daughter, Avianna.
Karen had been missing since around noon on January 8, in her blue Honda Accord in the parking lot of a Marshalls store in Woodland at around 3:45 p.m. on Sunday.
The discovery of Karen’s death marks the second tragedy in their family in a matter of days as her sister, 19-year-old Jessica was killed in a car accident on Sunday night. Jessica was with her boyfriend and three other friends at that time and they were driving back from a trip in Denny’s in Woodland when their vehicle was struck by a driver headed the wrong way down Interstate 5. All six people involved in the crash died at the scene.
The following day after Jessica met her tragic end, Karen disappeared.
A friend of Karen, Linda Quintero, shared that she struggled with the emotional weight of losing her sister. She was also the one who informed their mother about the tragedy. Karen was also said to have been worrying about finding a burial plot for her sister and also made tentative plans to move home to Williams.
Friends and family started worrying about Karen when she failed to show up at Jessica’s vigil one night. She also missed reporting for work the following day which is unusual.
Quintero was able to go inside her apartment and found cash, a driver’s license, and her lone bank card. Another friend tried to locate Karen electronically, where she appeared to be in Marysville. The friends sought police assistance and also carried out a search for Karen, online and offline.
It is not yet clear how Karen was killed, and what the motive of her ex-boyfriend was in murdering her.
Salvador Garcia is now wanted by the authorities.
