A former gold medalist Olympic boxer and head boxing coach at Los Angeles County gym in East Los Angeles was jailed on felony charges of molesting a child.

According to Los Angeles County Sheriff, 53-year-old Paul Garza Gonzales was arrested on suspicion of six crimes including lewd acts on a child.
Gonzales worked as the head boxing coach at Eddie Heredia Boxing Club for 10 years as an employee for Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation Department.
Gym volunteers described Gonzales as energetic and charismatic and say he never showed any peculiar signs. Authorities are concerned that there may be more victims and are encouraging them to come forward.

Gonzales is known for winning the light flyweight gold medal at the 1984 Olympics and also won the Val Barker Trophy for Outstanding Boxer at those games. The previous year, Gonzales won a silver medal at the 1983 Pan American Games.
Gonzales retired from boxing in 1991 and worked as a car salesman after a brief and unsuccessful run for office.
He was booked at the Men's Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday.
