Detectives from the Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium Metro Tactical Team were just on routine patrolling duties on New Year’s Day along the southeast area of Fresno, California when they heard gunshots from the 3200 Block of East Clay Street.
The detectives immediately responded to the area and saw a man walking with an AR-15 rifle.
The man was also at that time also carrying a loaded canister of ammunition.
The detectives then approached the man to confront him in the street. He was initially uncooperative and appeared to be intoxicated.
Fortunately, the man in question adjusted his behavior towards the authorities and started cooperating before matters escalated and get out of hand.
The man has been identified as Juan Rolons, 26, and a resident of Fresno. He was booked into the Fresno County Jail for possessing the rifle.
No one was reported by the authorities as hurt from the gunfire they heard before apprehending Rolons. It is not clear if the rifle is licensed, and if the suspect just got drank from the new year celebration and merry-making.
California has stricter gun laws than most states. AR-15s are not allowed to be carried out in the open if they are not secured with a trigger lock.
