Bob Comey, Avalanche Center Director for the area, said Walpole was in a group of 15 to 18 snowmobilers from Utah and was the only one to die. When the avalanche came, it left Walpole buried and the other riders partially buried.

He was following another ride through a steep area when the avalanche broke out around 1 p.m. swiping the riders down the slope. Another group of riders witnessed the avalanche and aided in the search.

The searchers were able to use an avalanche beacon to locate Walpole's location. When they arrived, Walpole's helmet was sticking out of the snow.

A GoFundMe has been set up for the victim's family that says, "Brennan lived life to the fullest! He loved life, his family, and his friends. Unfortunately, Brennan left this life too early as he was only 35 years-old."

Donations will help cover funeral expenses. The goal of $25,000 was met in a day and is already at $30,000.
