Christmas day held a terrible tragedy for one Arizona family after a motivational speaker shot and killed his ex-wife and two children on Christmas Day.
The shooting took place at a Phoenix, Arizona apartment complex where the suspect, 45-year-old Anthony Milan Ross, shot his ex-wife as she ran from him at 16th Street and Highland Avenue. Witnesses asked Ross if the victim was OK, he responded by saying "no" and pointed his gun at them.
According to police, Ross then went back into the apartment and fired two or three more shots killing his two children, 10-month-old Anora Ross and 11-year-old Nigel Ross. Mary Wogas is the sister of the shooter's wife and she says she got a text from Anthony and immediately knew something was wrong.
"I received a text yesterday about 2:52 p.m. Two messages, first one saying, 'I just killed Iris and the kids'. The second message was, 'with a gun'. I knew that man was very unstable. I knew he had a very, very dark side..I didn't know it was this dark."
Police arrived at 3:45 p.m. and found a deceased Iris Ross in the front patio way of the complex.
Police surrounded Ross's apartment where Anthony Ross barricaded himself inside. He told officers he had killed the two children but later changed his story to say he was threatening to kill them. Officers used a robot to enter the unit around 10 p.m. and found Anora Ross was dead. Officers continued to use the robot and the killer fired shots.
The Special Assignments Unit entered the apartment where the shooter continued to fire at them. One officer, a 23-year veteran of the force, was injured by the gunfire and taken to the hospital in stable condition.
