Two trains traveling at high speed in Austria collided resulting in overturned carriages with passengers trapped inside. Multiple people have suffered injuries from the collision.
A passenger train and a transit train were involved in the clash. Estimates say there were 30 people onboard at the time of the clash. The accident happened around 6 p.m. local time.
There are no declared casualties from the accident. Initial reports from local media say at least 15 people are hurt, with six of them in serious conditions. The crash happened in the northern town of Kritzendorf. Local reports also describe the crash location as near Vienna.
Shocking photos show two carriages of the double-decker passenger train lying on their side as emergency service responders surround the train.
Firefighters responded to the scene rescuing passengers trapped inside. 30 ambulances and 10 police cars were promptly sent to the scene of the incident.
Two helicopters have also responded to the area after passengers suffered head and back injuries.
The exact cause of the collision is still under investigation for now.
A major train line has been closed located between St. Andra-Wordern and Klosterneuburg-Wielding. Replacement buses have been placed for operations.
