A terrible accident involving a bus in Mexico's eastern Yucatan Peninsula with passengers from visiting cruise ships took the lives of 11 tourists early Tuesday morning. Children are said to be among the dead but authorities haven't established the nationalities of the dead yet.

Among those injured are people from Canada, America, Italy, Sweden and Brazil, some of which have been discharged from the hospital. A local tour guide was also among those injured. The company behind the Royal Caribbean cruise ship where the 27 passengers were from, tweeted regarding the accident saying,
"The news from Costa Maya about a bus accident involving #CelebrityEquinox & #SerenadeoftheSeas guests is heartbreaking. Our hearts go out to all those involved. We are doing all we can to care for our guests, including assisting with medical care and transportation."

The bus is said to have come off the road and rolled onto its side in the village of Mahahual as the group was headed to the Mayan archaeological site of Chaccoben. The tourists were confirmed to have been traveling on two ships, Celebrity Equinox and Serenade of the Seas which leaves from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
