Concert-goers captured the terrifying moment the entire stage and lighting structure collapsed onto the stage. DJ Kaleb Freitas was performing his set when the accident occurred. He was rushed to the hospital with major head injuries but he succumbed to his injuries. The blame for the stage collapse has been placed on adverse weather conditions.

Friends of the DJ, a Porto Alegre native, paid tribute to him on Facebook. Kaka Guimaraes said of her friend, "You were a person of great light and your smile charmed many people. I told you that less than three weeks ago and be assured we will always remember you with a huge smile on your face. You were a spectacular man. Your smile represented peace. No-one dies while they remain in peoples’ hearts."

Before the stage collapsed, the winds ripped the canopy off the top of the stage. Another friend of Freitas said, "Angel of my heart, friendship without limits. We are selfish by nature and do not want to lose anyone but your day to go up to Heaven has come."

The horrible accident occurred around 2 p.m. on Saturday and concert-goers wore summer clothing despite severe winds and storm clouds. Many did not even realize that anyone was killed and joked about the collapse after it happened.

Almost 5,000 people attended the festival at the time of the accident which ended in a stampede near the stage when people began to flee. Sergio Bandoca was in charge of the exhibition center where the festival took place and said of the event, "It was madness."

"The scale of the tragedy could have been far worse. Things were flying all over the place. There was panic." Officials confirmed the organizers had obtained the proper permits and paperwork for the event.
