A grandfather and his grandson were having a heated argument in Laurel County, Kentucky on Sunday morning. Minutes later, the grandson is dead after a shocking shooting incident.

The incident happened around 7 a.m. Sunday in a home on Arthur Ridge in East Bernstadt. A press release from the Laurel County’s Sheriff’s Office confirmed the incident. Deputies also identified the shooting victim as 26-year-old Anthony Ryan Thompson, who was also from East Bernstadt.

Authorities said that Thompson was arguing with his grandfather when at some point during the heated discussions, the two family members got into “a scuffle.” Police said a pistol was fired and hit the grandson in the chest.

Thompson died at the scene. The authorities have yet to establish whether it was the younger Thompson or the grandfather who fired the shot that took the grandson’s life. It is also not yet established how many shots were fired.

It is also not yet clear who owns the gun, as well as the reason behind the furious arguments between the grandfather and Thompson. It was also not clear who called the authorities to report the incident, and if efforts were made by the grandfather or anyone else in the home or neighborhood to try to save Thompson.

The authorities have yet to share the full details of the grandfather including his complete identity.

The family and relatives of the two have yet to speak on the sensitive and shocking incident involving two of their loved ones.

The police will present the case to the grand jury for possible charges against the grandfather, who is the only suspect at this point after they complete their investigation.
