Google received some shocking news when the naked body of its 23-year-old employee was found floating in the San Francisco Bay on Thursday.
The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety posted a tweet saying the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as Chu Chu Ma from Mountain View.
Google has confirmed that the woman indeed worked for the tech giant. The woman’s connection with Google was first established when a woman with the same name's LinkedIn profile indicating she’s a software engineer at Google was found.
A Google spokesperson released a statement in NBC Area and said: “Chu Chu was an excellent software engineer in our developer product team. We are devastated to learn of her passing and our deepest condolences are with family and friends.”
Authorities said that an investigation was ongoing. Officials are also “awaiting the results of the autopsy report.”
It is not yet clear if a crime angle is being explored. If it is, officials have not given details yet if they already have suspects under investigation for the possible crime, or if they are also looking into motives.
It is also not clear if the body was dumped in the bay, or if the body floated from a different source. A cyclist passing by the area discovered the shocking image, and immediately called 911 to report about the dead body floating face down in a drainage canal.
It is also not clear if the dead woman’s family has been informed or if they have already given their statements on the unfortunate event.
The nationality of the victim, and citizenship or immigration status have yet to be released by the authorities, too.
