FBI Investigated New Mexico School Shooter In 2016

The cowardly gunman who disguised himself as a student to gain access to a New Mexico high school where he killed two students was investigated by the FBI in 2016.

US investigators brought their attention to 21-year-old William Atchison, a former student at a small town Aztec High School, more than a year ago after he posted on an online gaming forum in 2016 about what weapons might be used in a mass shooting. The FBI said the post was flagged and investigators personally went to Atchison's house and talked with him.

When the FBI talked to the gunman originally, he did not own any firearms at the time other than an airsoft pellet gun. Atchison told investigators he had no plans for an attack and just liked trolling online. Now, we know much different. Indeed, Atchison was planning an attack that was carried out Thursday morning claiming the lives of two innocent young students.

The small Aztec community of around 6,500 near the Colorado border was rocked by the shooting. The gunman entered the school and mingled with students before going into a second-floor bathroom to "gear up." Then the gunman carried out his plan to shoot up a classroom before killing himself.

He wrote in a note, "Work sucks, school sucks, life sucks. I just want out of this (expletive)." Authorities say more lives would have been lost if Francisco I. Fernandez didn't walk into the bathroom. The gunman shot Fernandez before walking out into the hallway and encountering a second victim, Casey J. Marquez, who he mercilessly gunned down in cold blood.

The gunman walked up and down the hall firing randomly before killing himself. San Juan County Sheriff Ken Christesen said, "He was determined to create as much carnage as he possibly could." Although the FBI had interviewed Atchison previously over his inquiry to which weapons would be best for a mass shooting, he had not committed any crime at the time and there was not much they could do.

There is no system where someone can be charged and punished before a crime is committed and authorities could do nothing to protect the poor victim's from this psychotic animal.
