Family Catches Stunning Video of Fireball in Florida Skies

A family in Riverview, Florida captured a stunning video of a fireball flying through the sky earlier in the week. Dozens of people reported seeing the bright object but a Hillsborough County family has the video to prove it.

Alex Russell is the man who recently installed a security camera that happened to catch the object as it crossed through the sky and then burst. At least 55 people reported the sighting to The American Meteor Society on Tuesday around 6:35. The bright object was seen from dozens of counties including Jacksonville, Key West and Ellenton.

Russell says he first saw the object when he was outside with his 10-year-old daughter, Adriana. The pair raced inside to check the security camera where they found the footage shown above. Russell's wife then began streaming their reaction to the video on Facebook.

Fox says as she watches the video, "I’m just in awe. Man, it is so bright. It’s got to be a meteor." The American Meteor Society described a fireball as a bright meteor and a bolide is a special type of meteor that explodes into a flash at the end. That description matches exactly what the family caught on video.
