According to the FBI Monday, a man was arrested in Jacksonville, Florida they claim was planning a mass shooting at a mosque. The man's name is Bernandino Bolatete and he has been charged with illegally receiving and possessing an unregistered silencer.
An investigation into Bolatete ensued after a concerned citizen reported to the authorities that he expressed hatred for Muslims. Bolatete also threatened to "shoot up" a mosque according to the criminal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court of Florida.
Bolatete was recorded telling an undercover officer he was planning to climb the tower of the Islamic Center of Northeast Florida and open fire on its congregation. The complaint says he told the undercover officer, "So we’ll try… we will try a Christian doing uh terroristic act this time to the Muslims. They doing it all the time."
The troubled man was even willing to die during the attack, he called it "suicide by cops." Bolatete was seeking a quieter suppressor for his rifle because his old one wasn't very "quiet" but he didn't want to leave a paper trail. He also told the agent he planned on attaching it to his "pistolized AR," another weapon that was not legally registered.
He continued to pursue the purchase in text messages with the officer saying, "Altho the suppressor is not really that ‘quiet’ but it can be used on the 4th of July or New Year time, it can easily blend with the sound of fireworks. I think that's the right time you can hit that asshole that you have there."
Bolatete was also concerned about an upcoming doctor appointment for his kidney, he only had one left and it was functioning at only 31%. His other kidney was destroyed when he was accidentally shot in the back at a shooting range in the Philippines. The man was looking for a way to go out with a boom and was a self-proclaimed "shooting sports enthusiast".
His Facebook also holds photos of himself holding semi-automatic weapons and he shared an article titled, "EVIL: Radical Muslims Rape, Make Woman Quote Quran, But How They ‘Finish Her Off’ Is the Worst." The article was from a site called "Red Flag News," a right-wing site which has been accused of publishing debunked or suspect articles.
