Pittsburgh Man Fires Shotgun at Police Forcing them to Return Gunfire

Breaking news coming out of the Pittsburgh area tonight, after law enforcement say they were forced to shoot an armed man in self-defense.

According to the Wilkinsburg Police Department, officers were involved in what should have been a routine traffic stop near Pittsburgh’s Point Breeze neighborhood late this morning, after attempting to pull over a silver minivan who had ran a red light.

As the officers began their approach to 5he car to take the driver's information, the suspect in the vehicle decided to pull out a shotgun and fire on police, forcing them to return gunfire striking the suspect.

The officer involved shooting prompted backup to be dispatched and quickly arrived at the location on the 7600 block of Penn Avenue near the corner of South Braddock.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition, and at this time there has been no name released, according to<a href="http://www.wpxi.com/news/top-stories/police-shoot-man-who-fired-at-officers-during-attempted-traffic-stop/658697473#"> WPXI</a>.

There is however an ongoing investigation into the officer involved shooting, which is standard operating procedure anytime a police officer is involved in discharging their weapon.
