Black Man in South Carolina Charged with Murdering White Camper at Campgrounds

Law enforcement in Colleton County, South Carolina says that two weeks after finding a corpse abandoned in a camper, they've finally made an arrest in the case.

On November 17th, emergency medical responders arrived at the 100 block of Jason Lane, to the location in which the camper was parked after someone at the campgrounds located the deceased body of 49-year-old Gary Dale Hickman, of Charleston, who had suffered from an apparent gunshot wound.

Colleton County Sheriff's Lt. Tyger Benton said that prompted an investigation by homicide detectives to further investigate the case as a murder, due to there being a single gunshot wound to the skull, according toWCSC.

For two weeks investigators pleaded with the public for help, and apparently, those pleas paid off by the Colleton County Sheriff's Office announces the arrest of Anterrius Roy Stinson for the crime of murder.

The investigation is still considered ongoing, according toWBTV, to determine if this was a robbery gone bad or what motive exactly could have led to the homicide of Hickman, who was an apparent advocate for camping and frequented these locations on the weekends.

The obituary for Gary Dale Hickman reports him as being a family man, who loved to travel, being preceded in death by his mother, sister, two brothers, and two daughters.

Authorities are still asking for any witnesses who may have seen the suspect leaving the camper or has any further knowledge on what could have led to this senseless killing to contact the Colleton County Sheriff's Office at (843) 869-1674.
