Some have criticized President Donald Trump for always taking to Twitter to air his sentiments on many crucial issues, including his administration policies. His critics have even called for Twitter to ban or take down Trump’s account as they accuse him of using the social media platform to hit his detractors, enemies and people he diasgree with.
CIA Director Mike Pompeo, however, has a dfferent take on Trump’s Twitter habits and practices. For Pompeo, Trump’s Twitter practices have actually helped his agency gather and understand intelligence.
Pompeo said in a Fox News interview: “I’ve actually seen it help us. I have seen things the president has put on his Twitter account actually have a real-world impact on our capacity to understand what’s going on in other places in the world.”
Pompeo provides the president his daily intelligence briefings. He is also a former Republican congressman from Kansas. He has been at the CIA as ist head since January. Some people are claiming that Pompeo enjiys the trust and confidence of Trump and the two men are “close.”
The President was criticized by his detractors anew this week after he retweeted three videos from a British ultranationalist group showing Muslims carrying out acts of violence.
There are those who say retweeting such videos would only inflame other people to hate Muslims more even if many of them have not done anything wrong.
The White House defended Trump’s retweeting the said videos by saying Trump was only trying to “elevate the conversation.”
Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said of the issue: “Look, I think what he’s done is elevate the conversation to talk about a real issue and a real threat, and that’s extreme violence and extreme terrorism, something that we know to be very real, and something the president feels strongly about, talking about, and bringing up and making suere is an issue every single day, that we’re looking at the best ways to protect Americans.”
