President Trump scored his first major legislative victory as the Senate Republicans passed the new tax bill in the early hours of Saturday, in what is considered the most sweeping reform of the US tax code in three decades.

The Senate passed the plan in a 51 against 49 vote after there was a last minute frantic rewrite of the text. The only Republican Senator to vote against it Trump-nemesis Bob Corker. The bill will bestow huge benefits on US corporations and the wealthiest Americans.
The Republican Senate Majority Leader Mr Mitch McConnell said: “We think this is a great day for the country.”
President Trump soon later tweeted his congratulations, stating: We are one step closer to delivering MASSIVE tax cuts for working families across America. The House of Representatives, where Republican Paul Ryan calls the shots, passed its own tax reform bill last month and now a final bill will be passed to Trump for signing next week.

House Speaker Paul Ryan commented: “For the first time since 1986, both the House and the Senate have passed a major overhaul of our nation’s tax code. Now we will move quickly to a conference committee so we can get a final bill to President Trump’s desk.”
