Video - Israel Launches Military Operation Over Syria

Just a few days ago, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad that he would not allow Iran to install it’s forces in Syria anywhere near the Israeli border.

With an air force strike on an Iranian funded military base on Syrian soil today, Mr Netanyahu is keeping true to his word.

According to reports of regional press, Israeli warplanes struck a military base that is being built with Iranian help some 40km from the Syrian capital of Damascus.

Syria won the 5-year war against both its own people and ISIS thanks in large part to Iranian funds and help from military proxies, like Lebanon’s Hezbollah organisation, and Iranian militias entering via the Syrian-Iraqi border

Israel’s Defense Minister, Mr Avigdor Lieberman has repeatedly warned of Iranian entrenchment in the war-torn country, and warning that his country “will simply not allow for Shiite consolidation and Iranian entrenchment in Syria nor will we allow Syria to become a forward operating base against the State of Israel.”

Israeli officials have declined to comment on the reports of the attack so far.

According to Prime Minister Netanyahu’s cabinet, Iran is furthermore seeking to use its close ties with Syria to dock its submarines in Syrian ports.

When he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in March of this year, Netanyahu repeated that Iran was seeking to lease naval facilities along Syria’s Mediterranean coast, just as Russia had previously done at the port of Tartus.
