Ivanka Trump was a huge hit in India and she received rock star treatment in the Asian populous country.
Ivanka is in India this week to attend the Global Entrepreneurship Summit at the Hyderabad convention center. Ivanka in her speech urged business leaders to change their attitudes toward women at the summit.
The first daughter and White House senior adviser practically stole the show at the summit where Indian officials feted her to a grand reception usually reserved for heads of state.
Ivanka’s India trip is considered her biggest foreign mission to date. She urged India to seize the untapped potential in women and also promoted growing ties between the U.S. and India in her keynote speech on Tuesday before Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On Wednesday, she stressed that businesses must stop thinking about gender considerations in the workplace as “women’s issues.”
Ivanka said: “We are half the population so we need to start thinking about them as critical issues. We’re seeing an explosion in women entrepreneurs.”
Ivanka’s message was well-received in India by the attendees, and they are in agreement including on calls for India to boost its dismal low rate of female employment in one of the fastest growing economies not just in Asia but in the world.
Hyderabad is the tech hub in India, home to the operations of such tech giants as Google, Facebook, and Amazon. Many were overwhelmed by Ivanka’s star power, and for her visit, the city was decked in festive lights, colorful murals and huge billboards bearing her image.
Indian social entrepreneur Nishita Manne had nothing but good words for Ivanka. She said: “She is one of the most powerful women in the world at the moment so whatever she does have an impact.”
Student Raj Shekhar was all praises for Ivanka, too, in an interview with AFP. She said: “Ivanka Trump has a rockstar quality. She oozes glamour and class. She has it up our city with her presence. She has put Hyderabad on the global map.”
