Irish actress Catherine Walker, who is mostly known for her appearance as Scarron or Madame de Maintenon in the hit series Versailles (and who starred before in movies A Dark Song (2016), Leap Year (2010) and Patrick's Day (2014)), has signed up to play the lead in Rig 45, and upcoming English language drama subsidized by Nordic pay-TV outfit MTG Studios.

Her co-stars in the suspense thriller set around a fatal accident on an offshore oil rig will be Gary Lewis as well as Danish actor Soren Malling (who is mostly known for his role in 'A Hijacking')

Ms Walker is set to play Andrea, a private investigator hired by the board of an oil company to investigate a mysterious accident on one of its North Sea rigs which proved fatal for one of the workers.

Just as she finds that one of the other crew members was most likely responsible, a devastating hurricane slams into Rig 45 and cuts them from communication with the outside world.

The ambitious MTG studios has already produced a great number of hit series lately, all available on its Viaplay service. The Swedish company is currently working on some 50 projects to be released shortly. The previous series include the L.A.-set Swedish Dicks, which co-stars US star Keanu Reeves, the porn-themed drama-comedy Veni Vidi Vici, (Hulu just bought it for showing in the US), as well as Scandinavian horror thriller Black Lake (sold to BBC Four).

MTG started as Scandinavia’s first commercial TV channel in 1987, whilst it’s brands now span TV, radio, digital video networks and online gaming.
