Senior Hollywood actress Angela Lansbury is attracting some controversies of her own and a lot of anger from social media users after she said in an interview that “attractive” female victims of sexual harassment and abuse should accept some “blame.”
Lansbury shared her thoughts during an interview with Radio Times in light of the recent Harvey Weinstein allegations when she said that women can be “at fault” too in sexual harassment cases. The Hollywood star said: “We have to own up to the fact that women, since time immemorial, have gone out of their way to make themselves attractive. And unfortunately it has backfired on us- and this is where we are today.”
She did not stop there and even added: “We must sometimes take blame, women. I really do think that. Although it’s awful to say we can’t make ourselves look as attractive as possible without being knocked down and raped.”
The 92-year-old, six-time Golden Globes winner remarks did not sit well with many people, with some taking to social media to express their disagreement with the actress, even rage for what she said.
One social media user said: “Officially not a fan of #AngelaLansbury anymore- I could understand her generational racism, but her bull**** comments on sexual harassment being the woman (‘s) fault for making themselves look ‘too pretty’?! How deluded!”
Another wrote: “Oh Angela Lansbury. You’re so wrong.”
One was personally disappointed, writing: “Angela Lansbury is part of my childhood and I am both saddened and disappointed by this.”
Because of her comments, Lansbury gained a critic who posted: “Wow, until a moment ago I had no opinion of Angela Lansbury. Now I think she’s a piece of s***.”
