Man Who Knowingly Spread HIV Gets Time Added To Sentence

A 38-year-old man in northern Indiana has been given another year in prison following a previous sentence of three years for not telling partners he was HIV-positive.

Travis Spoor of Silver Lake was sentenced to an additional year for a separate malicious mischief charge that was filed against him while he was serving time for the previous sentence. Spoor was sentenced to three years in August after pleading guilty to three counts of malicious mischief stemming from his failure to disclose his HIV status to partners.

Court documents say Spoor met several women online and developed sexual relationships with many of them. Little did the women know the man they were sleeping with was infecting them with HIV. Along with the prison sentence, Spoor was ordered by an Allen Count judge to pay $300 to one of his victims.

It is a legal requirement in Indiana to tell a partner if you are HIV positive, a fact Spoor ignored completely.
