In an astonishing revelation, the Mail on Sunday today pointed out to astonishing evidence that the organization that is the world’s leading source of climate data rushed to publish a landmark paper that exaggerated global warming and was timed so as to influence the historic Paris Agreement on climate change.
A statement issued by a high-level whistle blower pointed out that America’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) breached its own rules on scientific integrity when it published the sensational but flawed report that was aimed at making the maximum possible impact that would appeal to the world leaders including Barack Obama and David Cameron at the UN climate conference which took place in Paris back in 2015.
The biased report stated that the slowdown or pause in global warming in the period since 1998 revealed by UN scientists back in 2013 never existed, and that world temperature had been rising faster that scientists had expected.
The report was launched by NOAA with a public relations fanfare, several politicians and policy makers repeatedly cited the report as it was splashed across the world’s media. However, Dr. John Bates, who is a top NOAA scientist with an impeccable reputation, has emerged and showed The Mail on Sunday some irrefutable evidence that the report was misleading.
The whistle blower, Dr. John Bates revealed that report was never subjected to NOAA’s rigorous internal evaluation process that Dr. Bates devised.
Unfortunately, Dr. Bates vehement objections to the publication of the faulty data was overridden by his NOAA superiors in what Bates describes as a blatant attempt to intensify the impact of what became known as the Pause buster paper. Dr. Bates disclosures are likely to stiffen President Trump’s determination to enact his pledges to reverse Obama’s green polices and hopefully to withdraw from the Paris deal.
The disclosures about the manipulation of data behind the Pause buster paper is the biggest scientific scandal since the Climate Gate back in 2009 when thousands of leaked emails exposed scientists that were trying to block access to data, and using tricks to conceal the many flaws that existed in their allegations concerning Global warming.
Dr. Bates has emphasized that both scandals suggest a lack of transparency and a failure to observe proper ethical standards. NOOAA’s failure to archive the data that was used in the paper implies that the results cannot be proved. In the long-run, this scandal is likely to reignite contentious debates around the world.<<Back
