Oklahoma Grandma Runs Over Her Own Baby Granddaughter With SUV

A toddler in Stillwater, Oklahoma has been airlifted in critical condition to OU Children's Hospital after she was accidentally run over by her own grandmother on Thanksgiving night. Police responded to 2400 block of West 26th Avenue around 5:00 p.m. Thursday where they found the seriously injured 3-year-old Merida Gibson.

The little girl was run over by a black Buick Enclave SUV with her grandmother behind the wheel. She claims she did not see the child behind her SUV sitting in the driveway. Stillwater Police Patrol Lt. Kerry Bell says, "The grandmother was leaving from spending the holiday with the family and did not see her three-year-old granddaughter seated, on the ground, in front of the car. She pulled forward, ran over the top of the child, causing serious trauma."

The poor little girl experienced face and skull fractures and internal injuries to her lungs and spleen according to a GoFundMe campaign set up for Gibson to assist with medical costs and to help fly the girl's father to the U.S. from Mexico. The girl's family had just brought Thanksgiving meals to the police station for those who could not be with family on the holiday.

"The family, filled with grief, still came to each one of us and thanked us for being the ones that responded for their granddaughter," Lt. Bell continued. "We gave thanks to GOD (sic) that we were the ones that got to help with this little girl. The cops prayed with the family when the helicopter left. This was the granddaughter of the family that brought in the Thanksgiving meal to the shifts today. I have no more words for this Thanksgiving."
